IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN the five and twentieth day of April in the two and twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland King, defender of the faith etc Anno Domini 1670, I CHRISTOPHER GOTELY the Elder of Molash in the County of Kent, yeoman, being in reasonable good health and in perfect mind, memory and understanding thanks and praise be given to Almighty God therefore do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that it so say;
First I most humbly present in soul into the hands of Almighty God assuredly trusting in and through the only merits of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and redeemer to be saved and my body I commit to the earth decently to be buried in the parish churchyard of Molash aforesaid as near the body of my late father JOHN GOTELY as conveniently may be by my Executor hereafter named.
And for the temporal estate which God out of his infinite goodness hath graciously been pleased to make me steward over for a season I give, dispose and bequeath as hereafter followeth (to wit),
I give and bequeath unto my three grandchildren of my daughter ELIZABETH AMYS the wife of RICHARD AMYS that is to say THOMAS, RICHARD, and HANNAH AMYS five shillings a piece of current English money and to my two grandchildren SAMPSON PIERS and JOHN PIERS the sons of my daughter MARY the wife of THOMAS PIERS the like sum of five shillings a piece and to be paid within half a year after my decease by my Executor hereafter named.
All the rest and residue of my goods, chattels and personal estate whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my eldest son JOHN GOTELY whom I make and ordain the sole Executor of this my present last Will and Testament he paying my debts, legacies, funeral expenses and for the probate of this my present Testament and last Will.
And touching and concerning my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments and premises hereafter mentioned I give and dispose as hereafter followeth that is to say,
I give and bequeath unto my said son JOHN GOTELY and to his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple all that my messuage or tenement called Leadmeads with the barn, stable, outhouses, edifices, buildings, gardens, orchards, closes, backsides, and seven pieces or parcels of land arable and pasture to the said messuage belonging containing by estimation two and forty acres more or less with the ways, easements, profits, commodities, advantages and appurtenance whatsoever thereunto belonging situate lying and being in Molash aforesaid and now in my occupation which said premises I hold of the manor of Chilham in the said county of Kent in free soccage PROVIDED always and it is my will and mind that my loving wife ELIZABETH GOTELY shall have her dwelling in the said messuage or tenement during her widowhood and not longer.
Moreover I give and bequeath unto her my said wife during her natural life the yearly sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her out of all and singular the said messuage, lands and premises before given to my said son JOHN GOTELY quarterly to be paid unto her or her assigns at the four most usual feasts or terms in the year that is to say at the feast of St. John the Baptist, at the feast of St Michael the Archangel, at the feast of the nativity of our Lord God and the feast of the Annunciation of the blessed virgin Mary by even and equal portions, the first payment to be made and paid at the feast of the feasts aforesaid which shall next happen after my decease and for nonpayment of the same of any part thereof, it shall be lawful for my said wife and her assigns to enter and distrain for the same upon all or any of the said messuage, lands, tenements, and premises and the distress or distresses there found to take, sell, or keep until she shall be paid her yearly sum of ten pounds and all arrearages thereof if any be and all charges thereby sustained. And I do hereby will, command and enjoin my four sons to be respective, obedient, and dutiful to their dear and loving mother my aforesaid wife.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son CHRISTOPHER GOTELY his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple all those my two pieces or parcels of land called Petfields with all profits, advantages and appurtenances thereunto belonging containing in all by estimation fourteen acres more or less lying and being in Molash aforesaid and in the occupation of myself and holden of the manor of Bower alias Flemmings in Molash aforesaid.
Item I give, will and bequeath unto my two sons NORTON GOTELY and HAMMON GOTELY and to their heirs all that my messuage or tenement with the barn, stable, orchard, backsides, closes, gardens, and seven and twenty acres of land more or less with the appurtenances to the said messuage or tenement belonging or in any wise appertaining situate lying and being in the Isle of Oxley alias Oxney in the parish of Stone in the said county of Kent and now in the tenure or occupation of John Shoosmith or his assigns to have and to hold the last before mentioned messuage, lands, and premises with the appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof unto my said two last mentioned sons NORTON and HAMMON and to their heirs and assigns forever in fee simple equally to be divided between them share and share alike.
And I do hereby revoke, frustrate, and make void all former Will and Wills by me heretofore made and do hereby publish and declare this for my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I the said CHRISTOPHER GOTELY the Testator have to the two first sheets of this my last Will and Testament set my hand and to this last sheet of this my Will and Testament have set my hand and seal dated the day and year first before written.

The above-written testament of CHRISTOPHER GOTELY Senior, deceased, was proved on the eighth day of August in the year of our Lord 1674 before the Reverend William Lovelace, clerk, etc., surrogate of the venerable Thomas Bouchier, Doctor of Laws, lawfully deputed official of the Reverend Father in God, the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, by the oath of JOHN GOTELY, son, etc., of the said deceased and executor named in the same testament. It was thereupon approved, and administration of all [his goods] was committed to the aforesaid executor, having first been sworn, etc., with the rights of any party concerned being safeguarded, etc."
