John Titherton, of Boughton Aluph, yeoman, bachelor, about 35, and Mary Sheafe, of Wye, virgin, about 21, daughter of Sarah Sheafe, of the same place, widow, who consents, as is testified by Timothy Sheafe [sic], of the same place, yeoman. At St. Margaret's, Canterbury. Valentine Austen, of Wye, maltster, bondsman.
I have puzzled over the name of the bondsman for a very long time, several years, in fact. I am now of the opinion that a mistake was made in entering the name of the bondsman and that it should have been Timothy Titherden, who had acted as bondsman on Elizabeth Sheafe's (Mary Sheafe's sister) marriage to Valentine Austin. I have not been able to find a Timothy Sheafe anywhere.
