- [S33] Bishop's Transcript, England, Church of England, Canterbury Cathedral Archives, Canterbury, Kent, England, (U.S.A., Salt Lake City: Genealogical Society of Utah), Boughton-under-Blean, Kent, England, 8 Mar 1761.
Entry states mother's name as Elizabeth Boughton and father William James. I suspect, in the absence of a child previously known between 1758 and 1763 that the mother's name should have been recorded as Brotherden. Although, in the absence of any corroborating evidence one cannot be absolutely certain that the mother wasn't an Elizabeth Boughton and that Samuel was just another one of William James' many illegitimate offspring.
