      IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the two and twentieth day of February in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ one thousand six hundred fortie and eight, I, ABRAHAM THORNETON, of Horsmonden, in the County of Kent, labourer, being sicke and weake in body but of a sound minde (the name of God be praised therefore) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following, vizt,

      First, I commend my soul into the hands of God my only preserver hoping by the death and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour I shall enjoy life everlasting, and my body I committ to the earth at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto WILLIAM THORNETON, my son, twelve pence.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto the two children of the aforenamed WILLIAM THORNETON, my grandchildren ABRAHAM THORNETON and ELIZABETH THORNTON, 20 shillings to each of them of lawful money of England.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto my two grandchildren PETER THORNTON and WILLMER THORNETON, children of my son JOHN THORNTON, deceased, 20 shillings or to each of them 20 shillings of current English money.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, WIDDOW ATKINS, the late wife of ROBERT ATKINS, deceased, 20 shillings of currant English money with a cupbord and a chest which is in my house I now dwell in.

      Item, I give unto GEORGE BECKET my son-in-law four pounds of current English money.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law ALEXANDER MAYNTALOWE 6 pounds, 13 shilling and 4 pence of current English money.

      Item, I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law JOHN HODGE 6 pounds 13 shillings and 4 pence.

      This is the last Will of me the said ABRAHAM THORNETON.

      Next my will and mind is that my debts which I owe be paid and my legacies formerly bequeathed with this my Will be carefully paid at the time hereafter named and my funeral expense discharged and then the remainder of all my goods, chattles and household stuff whatsoever I give and beqeuath unto my son-in-law STEPHEN HODGE whom I make and ordain my sole Executor to this my present last Will and Testament.

      Lastly my will and mind is that the said STEPHEN HODGE my son-in-law do pay my legacies or gifts by me given in this my Will to the several persons above mentioned within three months next after my decease.

      IN WITNESS WHEREOF I, the above said ABRAHAM THORNTON, to this my last Will and Testament have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of the day and grace first above written.
