- After a tragedy in the family in 1876 (the loss of all hands, including my Capt. Vincent John Berry, together with the schooner Sampson) which rocked the close-knit communities to which he belonged - Milton, Sittingbourne and Faversham, it is unknown, at this time, how many members of the Berry family continued to pursue a life on the rivers and seas. Captain Berry's sons didn't. But there were at least two other master mariners in the family and the rest were fishermen and oystermen and dredgermen.
