      Tax assessment found amongst the churchwardens accounts of Bethersden: "Also the said Edward Milsted reco a cessmen made the xxth daye of September by the said Edward Milsted, Walter Waterman churchwardens, Robert Bresenden the elder and Robert Bresenden the younger in the said thred [sic] and fourth years of kynge Phillippe and quene Mari [1556/1557] rec[eived] of John Stycker xii d."

      IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, in the year of our Lord God a thousand five hundred and sixty and four, I, JOHN STYKER, of the parish of Bethersden, of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to God, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following,

      First, I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Bethersden or where it shall please God,

      Also, I will to the poor people of the parish of Bethersden aforesaid three shillings, four pence to be distributed by the clerk of the same parish,

      Also, my will is JON[E] my wife shall have all my movable goods and chattels, whom I make my whole Executrix she paying my debts and legacies,

      Also my will is that JONE, my wife, shall the profits of my house and my land that I now dwell in she finding the reparations and paying the Lord's rent,

      Also I will that my mother shall have the chamber that she hath to go and come unto freely, also my will is that she shall have her fire and flet in my house during her natural life,

      Also, I will that my wife shall pay to ROBERT STONAS and to BURGES and JOHN STEFEN, and RICHARD STRAYN either of them six pence to bear me to the church.

      THIS is the Testament of me, the for named JOHN STYKER,

      First, my will is that my brother NYKOLAS shall have my house and my land that I now dwell in to him and his heirs in fee simple forever,

      Also, I will that my brother NYCOLAS shall pay unto THOMAS my brother, ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid to him and his heirs within two years after the decease of JON[E] my wife, my will is that five pounds of it shall be paid to him within one year after her decease. If it happen that THOMAS my brother be unpaid of any of his parts according to my Will that then it shall be lawful for him to enter upon my said lands for his part,

      Also my will is that ROBERT STYKER, the son of WILLIAM STYKER my brother, shall have paid him by my brother NYKOLAS, aforesaid, out of my house and my land for his part ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid to him at the age of twenty years and if it happen that NYKOLAS my brother do not pay him at the age of twenty years it shall be lawful for the said ROBERT to enter for his part also.

      Also, I will JOHN BENET shall be my overseer to see this my last Will performed and done.
