IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, I, THOMAS SHEAFE, of Willesborough in the County of Kent, maltster, being sick and weak of body but of sound perfect mind and memory (God be praised therefore) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testment in writing in manner and form following (that is tosay)
Imprimis I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God my maker hoping and trusting througb the meritorious death and passion of my blessed Lord and saviour Jesus Christ to receive the fre pardeon and forgiveness of all my sins and my body I leave to the earth from whence it came to receive a decent and Christian burial according to the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named and as for the worldly estate which God of his mercy hath lent me, I give and dispose of the same as followeth.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife GRACE SHEAFE and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life all that my messuage or tenement, garden and orchard thereunto belonging with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Mersham in the said County and now or late in the tenure or occupation of Stephen Lagget or his assigns and after her decease unto my two nephews CALEB and JOHN SHEAFE the two sons of my brother CALEB SHEAFE and their heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my nephew EDMUND SHEAFE son of my brother EDMUND SHEAFE of Asford in the said County, maltster, the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by y Executrix hereinafter named within six months next after my decease.
I give and bequeath unto my kinsman ISAAC MOSS son of ISAAC MOSS of the City of Canterbury silk weaver the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful oney to be paid unto him by the Executors of administrators of my said wife within ten days next after the decease of my said wife in case she do not marry or take another husband after my decease.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my kinswoman MARY SMITH daughter of my nephew AMBROSE SMITH of Willesborough aforesaid and unto my niece ELIZABETH FAGG the sum of twenty pounds a piece of like lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto them and either of them by the Executors or administrators of my sais wife at their several and respective ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage or either of them which shall first happen in case my said wife be then death not having married again as aforesaid and in case my said wife be not then dead immediately after her decease.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my two nephews WILLIAM SHEAFE AND THOMAS SHEAFE and to my niece MARGARET SHEAFE (the three children of my said brother EDMUND SHEAFE) the sum of ten pounds a piece of like money and unto ELIZABETH SHEAFE daughter of my nephew EDMUND SHEAFE of Willesborough aforesaid bailiff and to my servant JOHN STANLEY the sum of five pounds a piece of like money which said fie legacies or sums of money last mentioned I will to be paid by the Executors or Adminsitrators of my said wife likewise within ten days next after her decease in case she do not marry as aforesaid provided always and my will and mind is that in case my said wife do marry again as aforesaid that then all the legacies hereby by me above directed and appointed to be paid after the decease of my said wife, shall be paid within ten days next after such marriage of my said wife and in cases my said kinsman ISAAC MOSS happen to die and depart this life before the said legacy shall become due as aforesaid I give and bequeath the same legacy unto his sister MARY MOSS.
Item, my will is that in case my said wife die not being married as aforesaid before the legacies given to the said MARY SMITH and ELIZABETH FAGG shall become due as aforesaid the Executors and administrators of my saife wife shall after her death pay lawful interest for MARY SMITH'S legacy to her said father his Executors and administrators untill the same shall become due as aforesaid and in case the said MARY SMITH die before her said legacy shall become due shall pay the same to her said father his Executors or administrators to ELIZABETH FAGG's mother her Executors or administrators lawful interest for the said ELIZABETH FAGG's legacy untill the same shall become due as aforesaid and in case my said niece ELIZABETH FAGG happen to die and depart this life before her said legacy shall become due as aforesaid I give and bequeath the same legacy to her brother and sister JOHN FAGG and MARGARET FAGG equally to be divided or to such of them s shall be then living.
item, I make and ordain my said wife GRACE whole and sole Executrix of t his my last Will and Testament to whom after my debts, legacies, funeral expences, the charges of proving this my Will, and other incident charges are paid and sicharged I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my goods, chattels and personal estate whatsoever and lastly I nominate and appoint my friend JOHN BLACKSLAND of Monkton Court in the Isaldn of Thanet in the said County of Kent, yeoman, overseer of this my Will desiring him to see this my Will performed and to aid and assist my said wife, her Executors and administrators in and about the performance of the same.
In witness whereof I the said THOMAS SHEAFE have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one whole sheet of paper and this part of a sheet to the said whole sheet set my hand and this part of a sheet my hand and seal dated the two and twentieth day of June in the eighth year of the reign of our sovereign Lady Anne by the grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the faith ahd anno domini 1709
