IN THE NAME OF GOD, the 30th day of March in the year of our Lord God 1581, I, RICHARD WARMAN of the parish of Elmsted, in the County of Kent, yeoman, being somewhat sick of body, but of good and perfect memory God be thanked therefore, do make, ordain and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say
First I put my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the said parish of Elmsted.
Item, I give and bequeath to the poor of the said parish ten shillings to be distributed to the poor people at my burial by my Executor hereafter named.
Item, I give and bequeath to KATHEREN my wife three score pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her by mine Executor within half a year next after my decease and one good cow at her choice.
Item, I give and bequeath unto JOANE WARMAN my daughter twenty pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid unto her the said JOANE my daughter within three quarters of a year next after my decease.
Item, I give unto GRYSSELL my maid ten shillings.
Item, I give unto my daughter MARY the wife of one STARKE 20 shillings.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS WARMAN twenty pounds of good and lawful money of England.
Item, I give and bequeath unto GYLBERT WARMAN my son fifty pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid to the said GYLBERT my son within half a year next after my decease by my Executor.
The residue of all my goods and chattels, moveable and unmovable I give and bequeath unto my said two sons THOMAS WARMAN and GYLBERT WARMAN equally to be shifted and divided between them by the discretion of my Overseer, except my best bed, a pillow of down, with bedstedle and other furniture there unto belonging viz 3 pair and one sheet of the same bed and brass and pewter as she shall have need. And of this my said last Will and Testament I ordain and make my said son THOMAS WARMAN my Executor desiring him to see my Will performed, debts and legacies paid according to my true meaning, and I ordain and make my trusty friend LYONELL CHILTON of the City of Canterbury overseer, desiring him to be aiding and helping to my wife and children as I trust he will and twenty shillings I give him for his pains.
This is the last Will of me the said RICHARD WARMAN of all my lands and tenements, which I have within the Realm of England.
First I will, give and bequeath to the said THOMAS WARMAN my son my tenement or messuage with all and singular the houses and buildings thereunto belonging with the appurtenances and also all the lands thereunto belonging containing 9 acres of land be it more or less set lying and being with the parish of Stelling which I did purchase of one [left blank] CULLING of the parish of Northborne to be had and holden to the said THOMAS WARMAN my son to him his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple.
IN WITNESS that this is my true and last Will I the said RICHARD WARMAN have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written in my testament and witnesses at the writing, reading and allowing of this Will and Testament Michael Denns, Lyonell Chilton and John Dense the younger.
