The seventh day of January in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord James by the grace of God, King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, etc, that is of England, France and Ireland the eleventh of Scotland the seven and fortieth and in the year of our Lord one thousand, six hundred and thirteen, I, THOMAS CHIESMAN, of the parish of Bircholt, in the County of Kent, yeoman, being sick and weake of body yet of good and perfect memory (God be praised therefore) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following and first I commend my soul unto the hands of almighty God and my body to be buried in the earth.
Item, I give unto SUSAN, my wife, the best bed with the bedsted, coverlett and two blanketts thereunto belonging with two pair of sheets, two boulsters and two pillows.
Item, I give unto her my said wife the sum of forty pounds for the payment whereof I stand bounden to PETER WOODLAND to be paid unto her by my Executor at such time as in the condition of said bond is specified and set down.
Item, I give unto her my said wife four pieces of pewter that is one platter, one pewter dish, one salt and one sawser [sic: saucer].
Item two kettles of brass which were formerly belonging to her my said wife.
Item, I give to her my said wife all such woodden vessels as she had before I married with her that is tubs, kylers, drink vessels, bowls and fruggs.
Item, I give unto JOHN my second son the sum of ten pounds to be paid unto him by my Executor at his age of two and twenty years.
Item, I give unto EDMUND my third son the sum of ten pounds to be likewise paid unto him at his age of one and twenty years and if any of my said sons do depart this life before his several age aforesaid that then the part or portion of him so dying shall be equally divided between the survivor and THOMAS my eldest son.
The residue of all my moveable goods, my debts and legacies being paid, my funeral expenses discharged, the probate of my Will performed, I give unto the said THOMAS my son whom I make my sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I desire, nominate and appoint my trustie and wellbeloved kinsman JOHN CHIESMAN to be overseer of the same.
And as covering my lands and tenements this is also the last Will and Testament of me the said THOMAS CHIESMAN made and declared the day and year first above written wherein I give and bequeath unto the said SUSAN my wife for and during her natural life my tenement and lands in Brabourne now in the occupation of DANIEL HORTON doing no waste and after he decease my mind and will is that my said sons THOMAS, JOHN and EDMUND shall have the said tenements and lands to them and their heirs forever.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have to this my present last Will set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
