IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the one and twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty and four, I, JOHN ROOME, of Further Hakenige in the parish of Folkestone in the County of Kent, yeoman, being in good health and perfect memorie and understanding (praised be God therefore) do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say,
First, I bequeath my poor and sinful soul into the hands of almighty God my maker and redeemer and in Jesus Christ my most merciful and loving father in full hope and assurance through his mercy in Christ's merits only to have and enjoy my portion with the rest of God's elect in everlasting life and glory and my body to the earth whereof it was first framed to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named,
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS ROOME ten shillings to be paid unto him within one year next after my death.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Judith now the wife of JOHN HOGBEN forty shillings to be paid unto her within one year next after my death.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH the wife of RICHARD MARSHE ten shillings to be paid unto her within one year next after my death.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter MARGARET now the wife of THOMAS SUTTON ten shillings to be paid unto her within one year next after my death.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son RICHARD ROOME the sum of fifty pounds of lawful English money to be paid unto him within one year next after my death.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son STEPHEN ROOME the sum of fifty pounds of lawful English money to be paid unto him within one year next after my death And my will and mind is that if either of my said two sons, RICHARD ROOME and STEPHEN ROOME shall fortune to depart this present life before his portion shall become due and payable that then the survivor shall have his brother's portion of fifty pounds.
All the residue of my goods, chattels, cattel, corne, bills, bonds, debts ready money and other things not herein and hereby bequeathed my debs and legacies being paid I give and bequeath unto my loving wife JUDITH whom I do hereby constitute and appoint sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof I the said JOHN ROOME have hereunder put my seal and to either of this two sheets of paper subscribed my name and publish the same to be my last Will and Testament the day and year first above written.
