- RICHARD COOKE.
10 January 1535-6. Buried in the churchyard beside my aunt Sowthowsand. High altar 2s. ; and to all the Lights that hath a stock of corn 2d. each. Residue of goods to wife Elisabeth my ex’or. Wife have a messuage that my mother in law dwelleth in with 8 acres of land, the land called Teldens, and the land called Lokefeld, during her life. Also 15 acres of land and woodland in Bethersden, paying to John Cooke my brother of Smarden £12. Wife Elisabeth to sell my part of the land called Whetefeld to Nicholas Cooke of Wye. After the death of my wife, that son William have all my lands in Smarden , if my brother John will not receive the £12. The land called Teldens, after the death of my wife, to John Ricard, and to John Michell the land called Lokefield. That William Michell my son pay £5 to each of my daughters, Agnes and Joan. Witnesses : William Synkley, William Kenton, Nicholas Fleusse, Andrew Snoddowne.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the 11th day of January 1617, I, CHRISTIAN BAKER, of the town of Folkstone, in the County of Kent, widow, (late wife of THOMAS BAKER, late of the said town, Hard Hewer, deceased) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.
First, I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my make hoping assuredly by the merits of the death and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour to obtain forgiveness of my sins and life everlasting, and I bequeath my body to the earth whereof it is made hoping that it shall rise again to endless glory at the general resurrection of the dead.
Item, I give to THOMAS BAKER my eldest son twenty pounds to be paid unto him by my Executor when the said THOMAS shall accomplish and be of the full age of one and twenty years.
Item, I give to RICHARD BAKER my younger son ten pounds to be paid to him likewise by my Executor, at the full ages of one and twenty years,
Item, I will that if either of my said sons do die and depart of this life before the said age of one and twenty years that their said portions shall remain and be to the longer liver of them both.
Item, I give to DINA COOKE my sister ten shillings to be paid unto her by my Executor within one quarter of a year after my decease.
Item, I give to the said THOMAS BAKER, my son, one ewe and one lamb to be delivered unto his hands by my Executor at the full age of eighteen years.
Item, I give likewise to RICHARD BAKER, my son, one ewe and one lamb to be delivered unto him by my Executor when he shall likewise accomplish and be of the full age of eighteen years.
Item, I will that my Executor hereunder named shall have the use of all those lands and tenements and other portions and legacies given to the said THOMAS and RICHARD, my sons, by the last Will and Testament of THOMAS BAKER, my late husband, deceased, till the said THOMAS and RICHARD, my sons shall be of the full age of one and twenty years, provided always that my Executor shall well and sufficiently bring up, maintain and keep with all things necessary my said two sons THOMAS and RICHARD till they shall be of the full age of one and twenty years.
The rest of my goods unbequeathed and not given I give to JOHN ROOME the younger, whom I make sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament, paying my debts and discharging my legacies and funeral and I make Mr. Thomas Baker, Jurate and John Wafer my Supervisors of the said my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof to this my last Will and Testament I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written in the presence of these being witnesses.
