      IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, I, JOHN AUSTEN, the younger of Chillenden, in the County of Kent, yeoman, being of good and perfect remembrance praised by God, but sick of body do make and ordain this my present testament wherein is contained my last Will in manner and form following, that is to say,

      First, I bequeath my soul to our saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ by whose precious death I trust and assuredly hope to be saved and my body to be buried in such place as to my Executor it shall seem good, whom I make THOMAS AUSTEN of Adisham my father, in the County abovesaid, yeoman, to whom I give all my goods and chattels whatsoever they be moveable and unmoveable he therewith to see my wife's children satisfied their legacies for the which mine uncle RICHARD AUGUSTYNE of Adisham aforesaid and DAVY DENNE of Littlebourne are bound with me for the payment thereof to one Gyles of Woord (Worth) next Sandwich in the said County of Kent and others by our writing obligatory and to see them fully discharged of the said bond. Except my household stuff, two kyne, all my swine, hoggs, and poultry, and my gray mare which I give and bequeath to SYBBYLL my wife and also except five seams of wheat and five seams of barley which I give to the said SYBBYLL my wife, and furthermore except ten pounds of lawful money of England which I give to ELIZABETH AUSTIN my goddaughter, daughter of RICHARD AUSTIN my brother, deceased. And also except six pounds thirteen shillings and four pence of lawful English money which I give to DAVY AUSTEN my godson my brother ROBERT AUSTEN's son. And likewise except three kyne, three mare staggs and eighteen sheep which I give to my brothers WILLIAM, THOMAS and EDMOND equally between them to be divided by my said Executor.

      And finally except twenty shillings which I will to be given to the poor at my burial, or shortly after at the discretion of my said Executor writtn the first day of February in the year of our lord God a thousand five hundred threescore and six and in the nought year of the reign of our most dread sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth.
