      In the name of God Amen the seven and twentieth day of March 1662 and in the seventeenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King defender of the faith etc, I Thomas Denne of Bursted in the Parish of Bishopsbourne in the County of Kent, Gent son of William Denne late of the Borough of Longport in the County of Kent, Gent deceased being in perfect health memory and understanding praised be the Almighty God for the same considering the uncertainty of this present life and that is appointed for all men once to die and not knowing when now how soon it may please God to call me out of this present life do therefore for the settling of my estate to and amongst my wife and children to prevent all troubles that may hereafter arise between them make and publish this my present last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

      First and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping to be saved by and through the only merits death and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer and my body I commit to the Earth whereof it was first formed to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named.

      Item I give to the poor of the Parish of Bishopsbourne aforesaid twenty shillings to be distributed amongst them by my Executrix within one month next after my decease.

      Item I give to my eldest son William Denne two tables the one now standing in the hall of my now dwelling house and the other in the parlour of the same with all the ? formed(?) belonging to the said tables and my great chest standing against the window in the chamber of my now dwelling house which said goods I do hereby give to my said son William to the end and intent that the same may remain and continue in my Manor house called Bursted aforesaid I having by deed already settled the same and the lands thereto belonging upon my said son William upon his marriage.

      Item I give unto my sons Thomas, Vincent, Edward, and John Denne and to my daughter Katherine Denne to every of them one pair of sheets to be delivered to them at such times as my loving wife shall think fit.

      Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Katherine Denne the full sum of one hundred pounds of good and lawful money of England to be raised out of my stocks and crops that I shall have at the time of my decease by my loving wife and Executrix herein after named to be paid to my said daughter when she shall attain her age of eighteen years or be married which shall first happen.

      Also I give to my said daughter Katherine twenty shillings in money to buy her a ring with a deaths head to ? in remembrance of me and to be delivered unto her at her age aforesaid or day of marriage which shall first happen.

      All the residue of my goods chattels cattle and personal estate not by me otherwise willed and bequeathed I give and bequeath to my dear and loving wife Mary after my debts and legacies shall be satisfied.

      And I do hereby constitute and appoint my said loving wife to be my full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and if it please God she happen to die before the same be fully performed then I do make and appoint my sons Thomas and Vincent Denne Executors of this my will requiring them urgently and severally to see the same duly performed in all things according to my true intent and meaning herein declared and expressed hereby referring full power to my said wife to give and dispose of my linen and household goods to and amongst my children in such manner and at such times as she shall think fit and as my said children shall best deserve at her hands.

      And I do hereby desire and appoint my loving cousins John Franklin of Minster in the Isle of Thanet and John Stroud of Elham in the County of Kent to be Overseers of this my will and I desire them to be assisting and advising to my Executrix and Executors before named in the execution of this my will. And I do hereby revoke all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and declared.

      THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me the aforesaid Thomas Denne made published and declared the day and year first above written touching the disposition of all my lands tenements and hereditaments not settled otherwise by me by deed.

      First my mind and will is that my dear and loving wife Mary shall hold and enjoy during her natural life one annuity or yearly rent charge of fifteen pounds per annum settled upon her upon our intermarriage and one other annuity or rent charge of five pounds per annum but granted to her for an increase of her Jointure according to the true meaning of the several grants thereto.

      And my will and meaning is that all such sum and sums of money as I have by any deed secured to all or any of my children out of any of my lands and tenements be truly and duly satisfied and paid according to the true meaning of such deed or deeds by which the same and are secured.

      Item I give and devise unto my sons Thomas Denne and Vincent Denne all that my messuage with the appertuance situate and being in Great Hardres in the County of Kent at or near to a certain place there called ? with the house stable edifices buildings courts garden orchards and yard thereto belonging and all the several parts or parcels of land pasture and wood therewith enjoyed containing in all by estimation four score acres more or less lying and being in Great Hardres aforesaid and in Kingston in the County of Kent late purchased by me of Thomas Quilter and John Quilter to be had and holden unto my said two sons Thomas Denne and Vincent Denne and to their heirs and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them when they shall attain their several and respective ages of one and twenty years.

      And I do give and devise unto my loving wife the rents and profits of the said messuage and lands until my said sons Thomas and Vincent shall attain their said several ages towards their education and bringing up. And if either of my said two sons Thomas and Vincent shall happen to die without issue of their bodies then I do hereby give and devise the part and purpart of him so dying of and in the said messuage lands and premises to the survivor of my said two sons and to the heirs and assigns of the survivor of them.

      Item I give and devise unto my sons Edward Denne and John Denne all those my four pieces or parcels of land called or known by the name of Monkton(?) also Monkenland(?) containing in all by estimation threescore acres lying and being in Elham late purchased of Sir Henry ? Knight and John Stroud to be had and holden to my said two sons Edward and John Denne and to their heirs and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them when they shall severally attain their several and respective ages of one and twenty years and if either of my said two sons Edward and John Denne shall die without issue of their bodies then I give the part and purpart of and in the said lands of him so dying to the survivor of them.

      And in regard of the non age of my said two sons I do hereby give and devise to my said loving wife all the rents and profits of the said lands until my said two sons shall severally attain their said several and respective ages of one and twenty years for their education and maintenance.

      And I do hereby charge and require all and every of my children to be dutiful and obedient to their mother in all things as becomes dutiful children and to be directed by her in the managing of their portions and estates hereby given unto them severally and respectively as aforesaid.

      Provided also and my will and meaning is that if it happen my daughter Katherine do die before she attain her age of eighteen years or be married then the aforesaid sum of one hundred pounds hereby given unto her shall go and be paid to and amongst my son or sons Thomas Vincent Edward and John Denne equally to be divided between them.
      And I do further require and charge all my children to live lovingly together as becomes brethren and to be aiding and assisting one to another as becomes brethren upon all occasions according to their several ?.

      Provided always and my will and meaning is that if any of my children shall not be contented with this my will and with the legacies hereby severally given unto them and shall go about to ? this my present will in any part or shall do any acts to hinder the execution and performance of the same according to my true intent and meaning herein set down and expressed then I give the portions and legacies of such of my said children for opposing this my will unto the remainder of my children equally to be divided.

      In witness whereof to this my last Will and Testament contained in three sheets of paper I have to every sheet thereof subscribed my name and to the top thereof fixed my seal dated the day and year first written.
