      In the name of God Amen I William Denne of Bursted in the Parish of Bishopsbourne in the County of Kent, Gentleman being of sound mind and understanding blessed be God do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following. First I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator humbly beseeching him in his infinite mercy in Jesus Christ my Saviour to accept thereof and to ? it into his most gracious ? my body I commit to the Earth from whence it was taken decently to be interred at the discretion of my Executor. And for the estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose as followeth.

      First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Denne my bed and bedstead curtains valances and all other things thereunto belonging now standing and being in the parlour of my now dwelling house at Bursted aforesaid.

      Item all the rest of my goods chattels and personal estate I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Denne he paying my debts legacies and funeral charges and him the said Thomas Denne I make sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament.

      Item I give and devise unto my said son Thomas Denne and to his heirs and assigns for ever all that my Manor of Bursted ? in the County of Kent with all lands pasture wood thereunto belonging or ? or taken as ? ? or number thereof containing by estimation one hundred and forty acres more or less lying and being in the Parish of Bishopsbourne aforesaid in the said County of Kent chargeable nevertheless with the several legacies sum and sums of money hereafter mentioned in this my will.

      Item I give and bequeath unto my four daughters Elizabeth Mary Sarah & Ann the sum of one hundred pounds apiece of lawful money of England to be paid unto each of them by my said son Thomas Denne within one year after my decease for the payment whereof I do hereby charge my said Manor of Bursted and in case my said son Thomas shall not pay the said legacies to my said daughters at the time mentioned in this my will then it is my will that my said son shall from thence forth pay unto my said daughters or to each of them as shall be unpaid the sum of five pounds yearly apiece to each of them until they shall be paid their ? respective legacies.

      Item I give and devise unto my daughter Ann and the heirs of her body lawfully to be begotten all that my messuage or tenement called Rambles(?) and Buttons and also all the lands thereunto belonging or usually to them containing five acres by estimation situate lying and being in the Parish of ? Hardres(?) in the said County of Kent and now in the occupation of the widow ? or of her assigns and if my said daughter Ann shall die without heirs of her body then I give and devise the same messuage and lands unto my said son Thomas Denne and his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Denne the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of England to be paid him by my said son Thomas Denne within one year after my decease for payment of which I do hereby charge my said Manor of Bursted provided always and it is my will that if my said son Thomas shall within one year after my decease by good and sufficient conveyances and ? in the ? ? ? and ? unto my said son John Denne all this the said Thomas’s moiety ? and ? of a messuage lands and tenements called Morley lying in the Parishes of Lyminge, Selling and Elmsted in the said County of Kent to be had and held by the said John and his heirs for ever then and from thence forth the aforesaid ? ? of one hundred pounds given as aforesaid to the said John shall ? be void and of none effect.

      In witness whereof I the said William Denne have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal this third day of October Ano Domini 1696.
