      THIS YS THE LAST WILL and testament of me ROBERT HORNE, Bysshoppe of Winchester made and declared the xxixth day of Maye Anno 1579
      IN NOMINE PATRIS ET FILII ET SPIRITUS SANCTI AMEN, I, ROBERT HORNE, Bishoppe of Winchester sicke in body but in p[er]fect memory make and ordeine my last Will and Testament in mann[er] and forme following.

      Ffirst I com[m]end booth my soule and body into the hands of myne onely savior and redemer Jesus Christ through whose death and passion I am fully p[er]suaded and doe beleve my synnes to be forgiven and that my soule im[m]ediatly after the dep[ar]ture from my body shalbe w[i]th him in his ioyous paradise there to remaine until my body shall arise out of the earth at the last day And then my soule and body to be united together againe and so to live w[i]th Christ in his glorious kingedome for ever more in the meane while my body to be buried in my cathedrall church before the pulpitt where yt now standeth in semely sorte w[i]thout any pompe or blasing ceremonyes in the earth to rest and slepe in hope untill the day of the generall resurreccon.

      I will and bequeath to the same my cathedrall church at Winton all my historicall books Greke and Lattyn Eccliasticall and profane to be layd up and used in the library belonging to the same church.

      Item I bequeath to the poore hospitall of St. Crosses nigh Winton thirtie poundes.

      Item I bequeath to Magdalen hospitall nigh Winton twentie pounds.

      Item I give unto RICHARD WINGFEILD my servant five poundes.

      Item I will that each of the residue of my houshould servants shall have ad whole yeares wages as they were woute to have in my lieftime paid them at or im[m]editly after my buriall.

      I give and bequeath to the poore of the Citie or Towne of Dursme fortie poundes.

      Item I give and bequeath to PAWLE DAYRELL my nephew my best bason and ewer of silver p[ar]cell guilte.

      Item I give and bequeath to GEORGE DAYRELL my nephewe the other bason and ewer p[ar]cell guilte of silver.

      Item I give and bequeath my third bason and ewer all white without guilt of silver to the child w[i]th my daughter REBECCA HAYMAN goeth w[i]thall whether it be a man childe or woman child.

      Item I give and bequeath to RICHARD ACWORTH my nephew my humanitie books Greeke and Latyn.

      Item I give to every of my two mayde servants fortie shillings.

      Item I give to DAVID RICHE my servant ov[er] and above his give poundes wages five poundes to make yt up in all w[i]th that before given tenne poundes.

      Item I give to WILLIAM NEAVE ov[er] his wages forty shillings amounting with that before given to foure poundes.

      Item I give to AMBROSE LONG my servant ov[er] and above his wages fortie shillings amounting all to foure poundes.

      Item I give to THOMAS PARKER my servant over and above his wages eight pounds amounting in all w[i]th that before given to ten pounds.

      The residue of all my goodes and cattells unbequeathed my funerall expenses debts and legacyes first satisfyed contented and paid I give unto my foure daughters ANNE DAIRELL MARY HALES MARGERY DAIRELL and REBECCA HEYMAN equally among them to be devided.

      Item I make ordeine constitute and appointe MR. WATSON Deane of Winchester M[aste]r Doctor EBDEN and JOHN DAIRELL and JOHN HALES my sonnes in lawe my executors of this my p[rese]nte Will and Testament. And I give unto every of the said MR. WATSON, Dean, and Ms. Doctor EBDEN one portegne. And I do hartely request and pray SR. HENRY WALLOPP, Knight, SIR RICHARD NORTON, Knight and SIR WILLIAM MORE, Knight to be Overseers of this my p[rese]nte Will and Testament geving their assistaunce to myne executors. And I give unto every of them one of my best horse whether they be in stable or pasture and every of them to make their choice in order as they be here before named.

      The year given in this excerpt is contradictory to the date of probate of Robert Horne's Will which was definitely 1579.
