On Thursday Daniel Cork, John Cork, John Bridgland, and Henry Elliott, appeared before the Borough Magistrates at Faversham. Cork was charged with ill using a horse, the property of Bridgland, and John Bridgland with Henry Elliott a servant of Bridgland with assaulting John Cork. It appeared that on the previous day Bridgland's waggon was taking up a load on his own premises when Cork wishing to pass with his horse and cart, and not finding room, without any warning commenced beating Bridgland's horse over the head with the butt-end of his whip. Bridgland immediately interfered to prevent further violence and words ensued. After patiently hearing both sides of the question the magistrates dismissed both cases, adjudging each party to pay their own costs.
