"My father, George, only six months old when his father was drowned, hated the sea and became a farmer. We farmed Ham Farm, 250 acres, for forty-two years. I ran the farm for about 25 years. I quit in 1961 and had a general store for 11 years. Good business, but hard work. I retired in 1961 but joined the Medway Ports Authority, retired after 8 years but carried on for another 7 years. Ann, daughter is 53 years. Christopher, son, master mariner, deep sea ocean going, 38 years."
