      FAVERSHAM, Oct 23.

The Sessions of the Peace, for the borough of Faversham, was holden in the Town Hall, on Thursday last, before the Mayor, recorder, and W. C. Morgan, Esq. The only prisoner for trial was Stephen Ruck, charged with stealing a loin of mutton from the shop of Mr. Richard Swoffer.

The grand jury found a "true bill" and the prisoner pleaded "not guilty." The petty jury acquitted the prisoner, to the surprise of all present. The Recorder, either from indisposition, or some other cause, appeared incompetent to the duty required.

No address was delivered to the grand jury - scarcely the semblance of examination of witnesses; no recapitulation or explanation of evidence. These deficiences are named as an apology for the verdict; the jury considering it their duty to convict only upon the clearest evidence, which was not elicited.
