This has been speculation concerning this Jemmett family. There is an Austin surname connection as witnessed by the name of the youngest son aged 4. I have found no marriage as yet for John Jemmett and Catharine. If Catharine was an Austin, she may well have been the daughter of Lucy (nee Ruck) who was born during 1800. And, if this is so then there would be perfect sense for John Ruck to have stayed with that family as Catharine would have been his first cousin.

FAVERSHAM.
FOUND DEAD. On Thursday morning, J. Tassell, Esq., the borough coroner, held an inquest in the Council Chamber, on the body of John Ruck, aged sixty-three years, who died on the previous day under the circumstances detailed in the subjoined evidence: John Johnson, a labourer in Mr. Barnes's coal yard, said he knew the deceased John Ruck, who was a coal porter in the occasional employ of Mr. Barnes. On Wednesday he was sitting in his lodge all the morning, and did a little work soon after noon. He was employed with witness and another man, and when he was done deceased went into witn'ess's lodge. Soon afterwards his son called him, and he went into the lodge. He found deceased lying upon the floor, apparently in a dying state. Witness ran at once to the station and gave information to the police. Deceased appeared to be quite well up to the time of his going into the lodge - Albert Johnson, son of the previous witness, said that, on going into the lodge, deceased sat down by the fire. He got up and went to the door, and fell backwards. Witness immediately caleld his father. - Mr. W. N. Spong, surgeon, said that about one o'clock he was sent for to see the deceased, and found him lying on his back, quite dead. From the appearance of the body, he had no hesitation in saying that deceased died from heart disease. Verdict - Died from natural causes.
