Huguenot Family History Society With the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, the then King of France, Louis XIV, also sent all Protestant pastors out of France and into exile.  In all about 200,000 Huguenots eventually left France and settled in non-Catholic areas of Europe while approximately 50,000 arrived in England with some of those refugees moving on to settle in Ireland.  This society is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the documents and records of these individuals and their culture.
Railway Ancestors Family History Society The purpose of this society is to help members trace their ancestors throughout Great Britain who had an association with the British railway system.  The society is also open to receiving memberships from and helping British railwaymen overseas.

Newgate Calendar Database The Newgate Calendar, a series of stories about criminals from the 17th century and earlier through to 1840, is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the criminal underworld of 18th Century Britain. This database allows one to search by surname for mention of familiar individuals.

Images of England This is a wonderful website for photographs taken around England.  Many historic houses have been photographed and added to this database as have many historic monuments, including gravesites.  Free sign-up is required to access the database and the search facility is difficult to negotiate through.  But the rewards can be well worth the time and effort spent.  The grave sites of several of my Ruck family that I found on here helped to definitely solve a few lineage puzzles.

Mapco Map Of North West Kent 1789 on this wonderful site for London and environs maps with high quality, large size scans.  This Kent map is at a scale of 1 mile to 1 inch.  Also has online An Entirely New & Accurate Survey Of The County Of Kent, With Part Of The County Of Essex, by William Mudge, 1801.
Great Britain Family Names Profiling Website presents the findings of a project based at University College London (UCL) that is investigating the distribution of current and historic surnames in Great Britain. Users can search the databases to trace the geography and history of their family names.

Genes Reunited From the team behind the hugely successful FriendsReunited website.  A paid subscription is required if you wish to correspond with others researching your family lines.  Otherwise, the site is free to search.
Genforum - Kent This is a "free" arm of Ancestry.com under the banner of their subsidiary, Genealogy.com.  Most queries on the site are for U.S. research but there is a small contingent of U.K. roots seekers that seem to know only of this site.  Genforum also has many individual "surname" boards.  Click on their "Home" button to go to the main page forum-finder search box.
Forces Reunited (Military) The largest British Armed Forces Community on the web with over a million members!  Find your friends here, but this site is more than just a reunion site. It provides with great free services, such as lively discussion forums, military news, photo gallery and numerous other great sections.  You can also search Forces War Records subscription site from the home page. Forces War Records is a pay-for-view site but minimum search results are returned without signup or expense so that you can determine if signup and a subscription would be worth your while.

Papers Past Archive newspaper website with more than one million pages of digitised New Zealand newspapers and periodicals covering the years 1839 to 1945.  The collection also includes 61 publications from all regions of New Zealand.
Google Newspaper Archive Google's newspaper archive website encompassing search results that include content from a number of sources such as independent online archival material that has been indexed by Google and content from their News Partners program.  Some articles may require a fee to view.
Nineteenth-Century Serials Edition Free, online edition of six nineteenth-century periodicals and newspapers.
Richard Heaton's Newspaper Collection This collection consists of about 800 free searchable extracts and full transcripts of English, Irish, Georgian and early Victorian regional newspapers.

Outbound Passenger Lists - Britian to Overseas ports This resides on Find My Past website but the index is free to search.  BT27 passenger lists 1890 to 1960 include long-haul voyages to destinations outside Britain and Europe.  Destinations which feature strongly include Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and South Africa.
AUS-NZ Passenger Lists Helping family historians find the vessel that brought their ancestors to Australasia.
Australian National Archives Passenger Lists Search for passengers arriving by ship in Fremantle and other Western Australian ports between 1921 and 1950; or arriving at Perth airport between 1944 and 1950.
Australia - New South Wales Passenger Lists Numerous assisted and unassisted passenger arrivals in New South Wales between 1816 and 1900.
Australia - New South Wales Mariners and Ships lists Unassisted passengers and crew lists plus transcriptions and digital copies of the original passenger lists held by The State Records Authority of New South Wales.  This is an ongoing project with lists completed for 1845-1849, 1851-1852, 1854-1859, 1860s, 1870s and 1880s.  Complete lists for the 1890s to 1922 in progress.
Australia - Queensland Passenger Lists Passengers from the United Kingdom and Europe only arriving between 1848 and 1939.
Australia - South Australia Passenger Lists Passenger lists for about 1,260 ship arrivals carrying almost 28,000 families between 1803 and 1854.  The database contains shipping and emigrants from Germany up to August 1854, the UK and Ireland up to July 1850, and other ports up to 1847.
Australia - South Australia Passenger Lists Official passenger lists of emigrants selected by the Colonization Commissioners between 1845 and 1886.  Access the lists using the collection search engine, ArchivesSearch.
Australia - more South Australia Passenger Lists Arrivals between 1836 and 1851 arranged by year and alphabetically by ship.  Images of transcripts of the passenger lists are available online.  Surname searching is not available.  Includes arrivals from other British colonies and overseas ports.

Australian Passenger Lists The website of Peter Larson who is indexing shipping arrivals and departures.  The site includes more than 92,000 alphabetical passenger list entries, which are, in turn, linked to transcripts of the passenger lists.
Canadian Passenger Arrivals-all ports Online images of all passenger arrivals at all Canadian ports encompassing the official immigration documents from 1865 to 1935.  There is no index to these images except as noted in the Canadian Passenger Arrivals Indexing Project, below.  The lists are organized by port and date of arrival.
Canadian Passenger Arrivals Indexing Project A project of the Nanaimo Family History Centre in British Columbia, Canada whereby members are indexing the arrivals at Quebec, Canada (Montreal is included in the Port of Quebec) from 1900 to about 1921 when the passenger lists were discontinued for a time in favour of the form 30A.  Arrivals for the period 25 Jun 1905 to 13 Oct 1910 have been completed and comprises 626,150 listings from 1,173 ship arrivals.  Current indexing encompasses the period from 1905 back to 1900.
Castle Gardens U. S. Passenger Arrivals From 1855 to 1890 Castle Garden was the first official immigration centre in the United States of America.  This free site offers access to information regarding 11 million immigrants from as early as 1820 through to the opening of Ellis Island in 1892.  Castle Garden is now known as Castle Clinton National Monument.
New Zealand Passenger Arrivals - Auckland Auckland area passenger arrivals 1838-1889, 1909-1921.
New Zealand Passenger Arrivals Early passenger arrivals includes about 35 shipboard diaries.

G O O N S The Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONs) through which people register their interest in a particular surname.  Studies of a particular surname are carried out over a large geographical area irrespective of any familial connections between the family groups.
