Boughton Monchelsea, a parish in Maidstone district, Kent;  near the Weald, 4 miles south-by-east of Maidstone, and 4-1/2 miles northwest of Staplehurst rail station.  It has a post office under Staplehurst.  Acres, 2,296.  Real property in 1860, £6,164.  Population in 1861, 1,190.  Houses, 234.  The property is subdivided.

The manor belonged anciently to the Monchelseas of Swanscombe.  Kentish rag is extensively worked.  Remains of a Hyæna were found here, in a fissure, by the late Dr. Buckland.

The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury.  Value, £395 with a habitable glebe house.  Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Rochester.  The church is very good.
