Local historian Dr. Andrew Ashby of the Snodland Historical Society will hold an exhibition of the history of Birling and the surrounding area and will be in the church on Saturday and Monday, only, to answer any questions.

A Year in the Life of Faversham
Location:  Creek Creative, 1 Abbey Street, Faversham, Kent ME13 7BE
Time:  11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

You can take part in this community project by submitting your photographs from the past decades, to be used in the free exhibition later this year and in a free book about Faversham and its history.  They must show Faversham (street scenes, events, shops etc) and must have been taken any time before the 1990s.  Please deliver your photographs to Creek Creative.  They will be scanned and returned to you.

Annual General Meeting followed by a talk from the society's President – 19th Century Emigration from Cranbrook & the Weald.

'Keeping up Appearances'

An Afternoon in Cobham
Location:  St Mary Magdalene Church, the High Street, Cobham, Kent DA12 3DB
Time:  2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m..  Admission fee payable.

Explore the 13th century Church,St Mary Magdalene and its world renowned monumental brasses and the Brooke Tomb.  The church will open its museum displaying artifacts for the first time.  You will then visit New College of Cobham where your guide will give you a tour and talk on the history of the building.  Finish with afternoon tea in the college.

Guided Tour of Gravesend Cemetery

Walking is involved - suitable clothing and footwear are required.  Listen to a local research group explaining the history of Gravesend and Milton Cemetery and its origin as the Victoria Gardens, a place of entertainment and prospective tourist attraction.  The venue is the Grade II listed chapel formerly the concert hall of the gardens.  Follow Tony Larkin, a local historian, on a walk round the grounds.

Tour of the Cold War Bunker
Location:  Woodlands Park, Wrotham Road, Gravesend, Kent, DA11 7LF

No access for wheelchairs or pushchairs.  Leave 2010 behind and enter the doomsday world of the Cold War.  See a menacing atomic bomb and learn what might have happened had there been a nuclear war.  Would the team in the 13 rooms of this underground civil defence command post have been able to help the community outside?  Why not go on a tour and find out!

Time:  Last guided tour of the Hall is at 4:00 p.m..  Self guided tour of the gardens until 6:00 p.m.  Admission fee is payable.

Cobham Hall is an outstandingly beautiful red brick mansion which seamlessly reflects Elizabethan, Jacobean, Carolean and 18th-century styles.  The Hall grounds includes rolling park land and scenic pleasure gardens designed by Humphry Repton in the late 1700s, which have recently been restored by the Cobham Park Heritage Project.
