Rainham Poll Books 1832, 1837, 1852, 1863, 1868 Kent Online Parish Clerks

Editorial Notes:  The Electors whose names are followed by two asterisks, e.g. **, did not vote in the year shown next to the entry so marked.  All 5 poll book transcriptions have been merged into one file and alphabetized by surname, followed by given name and then arranged by year of event, from earliest to latest.  I felt that arranging the file in this fashion would produce a broader picture of one's ancestor or family member as one is able to see, instantly, how long a particular individual was part of the voting process in Rainham affairs.  This arrangement can provide a beginning year and a year at which an individual was associated with the parish and allow a researcher to formulate a hypothesis that could provide direction for a stalled search.  As an example, Edward Beaumont was enumerated at Rainham for voting purposes in 1832, 1837, 1852 and 1863.  For some unknown reason, he was not included in 1868 and, upon closer examination, it quickly becomes apparent that, although he may have been entitled to vote for the three later years, he did not.  Is this indicative of a prolonged illness suffered by Edward Beaumont?  Was he out-of-the-country?  Only further research will provide the answer, but at least some preliminary hypothesis can be formulated as to the status of Mr. Beaumont.
