The church is named for St. Mary the Virgin with original parish registers commencing 1708. [Please note: Archdeacon's Transcripts commence 1566 and Bishop's Transcripts commence 1603.] Ebony, is a a parish in Tenterden district, Kent; 3 miles west of Appledore rail station, and 3-3/4 southeast of Tenterden. Post town, Appledore, under Staplehurst. Acres, 2,209. Real property in 1860, £4,660. Population in 1861, 184. Houses, 34. The property is divided among a few.
