The village stands on the verge of the Weald, 2-3/4 miles north of Pluckley rail station, and 7-1/2 west-north-west of Ashford; and has a post office with a savings banks and a money order office, under Ashford, and a fair on 5 August. The parish comprises 2,780 acres. Real property in 1860, £3,682. Population in 1861, 816. Houses, 148. The property is much subdivided. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury.
